Manipur Imbroglio

Congress member’s loud protest against the BJP today caused the committee meeting to descend into an unanticipated state of chaos. The chant, ‘BJP haye haye’ reverberated throughout the elaborate halls causing a disturbance and grabbing everyone’s attention. The BJP President JP Chadha made a pointed comment during the discussion that sparked the commotion. He claimed A woman was raped recently in West Bengal during the communal riots and Congress has not issued a single word of condemnation. The atmosphere was already tense but his words lingered and became more intense.

The discussion moved to the ongoing conflicts in Manipur as the session went on. The chance was seized by BJP leaders to set their party apart from the Congress position. “We do not support riots unlike the Congress,” a BJP leader vehemently declared, “We are dedicated to putting into practice long-term solutions that will result in sustainable development, something that has never been done before. Our vision for Manipur is transformative.” Their discourse sought to depict Congress as a party of band-aid solutions devoid of substantive advancements. On the other hand, Congress struck back quickly. They brought up the highly contentious remarks made by Chief Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Babulal Gaur, who famously declared, “Rape is a social crime that is sometimes right and sometimes wrong.” This statement was brought up and it caused the committee to become even more incensed. Congressmen grabbed the opportunity yelling catchphrases that heightened the agitation of the meeting. JP Chadha adopted a strong stance amid all of this chaos.

Recognizing the seriousness of the opposition he declared that Babulal Gaur would be banished from the party. In an effort to calm the escalating tensions and bring order back to the session he declared, “We do not stand by such reprehensible views.” The events of the day brought to light the severe rivalry and profound divisions that exist between the two main political parties as they compete to outmanoeuvre one another against the backdrop of pressing social and political concerns. The intense drama emphasized the seriousness of the committee’s discussions and the strong feelings that fuelled the debate.
